ShotSpotter Flex has Arrived in the Metro

Bullets flying through the air are piercing walls of houses, breaking windows and shattering lives as gunfire rolls through neighborhoods in Kansas City, Missouri has residents feeling like a prisoner in their homes. Last Fourth of July, 11-year-old Blair Lane stood outside with other children watching fireworks. Across town, a resident at the Whispering Lake Apartments in Kansas City, Missouri fired a 9mm Glock handgun into the air. The bullet traveled 1000 feet from the apartment complex to the 4300 block of Pittman in Kansas City, striking and killing Lane.

La bala viajó mil pies, desde el complejo de los departamentos, hasta la cuadra Pittman 4300, bloque en Kansas City, alcanzando y matando a Lane.

Residents Want Violence Stopped

The sound of gunfire in the Westside neighborhood is making life very difficult for area residents and businesses. What use to be a norm when someone would see crime in their neighborhood, they use to call 911. But according to these residents who attended a May 10 community meeting they are saying it is scary to call 911. It may be a case that too often they hear shots and assume that someone else will make the call to the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department (KCPD). Some neighbors fear retaliation if they are give a description of who they saw or the vehicle that spun off in the neighborhood after a drive by shooting. One Westside neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, fears for herself and her family and does not always pick up the telephone to call the police when she sees violent activity happening.

Los Residentes Quieren Que Pare La Violencia

El sonido de los disparos en el vecindario del Westside, esta haciendo que la vida sea muy difícil para residentes del área y negocios. Antes era una norma, que cuando alguien veía cometerse un delito en su vecindario, llamaban al 911. Pero según estos residentes que asistieron a una reunión comunitaria el 10 de mayo; dicen, tienen temor de llamar al 911. Podría ser el caso que muy a menudo oyen tiros y suponen que alguien más hará la llamada al Departamento de Policía de Kansas City, Missouri (KCPD por sus siglas en inglés). Algunos vecinos temen venganza, si ellos dan una descripción de a quién vieron o del vehículo que ronda en el vecindario, después de unos disparos hechos desde un vehículo en movimiento. Una vecina del Westside; que deseó permanecer anónima, teme por ella y su familia y no siempre levanta el teléfono para llamar a la policía cuando ve que sucede alguna actividad violenta.
“Hemos llamado a la policía, pero también hay ocasiones en que estamos solos en el vecindario, cuando todos los demás estan fuera, somos los únicos en la casa”, declaró ella.
